Medicare Plans in Palm Beach County, FL

Whether you live in Jupiter, Wellington or Boca Raton, your Medicare choice comes down to two setups. You either join a Medicare Advantage (Part C) plan, or you keep Original Medicare with a Medicare Supplement (Medigap) policy and a Part D drug plan. Plenty of people in Palm Beach County go each way, and the right one for you depends on your doctors, your prescriptions and where you spend the year.

This page walks through both setups, what changes if you split the year between Florida and another state, and how to compare plans against your own doctors and drug list. The yearly enrollment window opens October 15 and closes December 7.

  • Medicare Advantage (Part C) plans compared side by side
  • Medicare Supplement (Medigap) quotes, Plan G and Plan N
  • Help for people turning 65 or moving to Florida
  • Part D plans priced on your own prescriptions

The Two Medicare Setups in Palm Beach County

Part A and Part B come first for everyone. After that, you either replace them with an Advantage plan or keep them and add a Medigap policy on top.

Medicare Advantage Plans (Part C)

Private insurers approved by Medicare sell these plans. You still have Medicare, but the plan pays your claims and handles your benefits. Most plans in the county include:

  • Hospital and doctor coverage on one card
  • Prescription coverage in most plans
  • A network of doctors and hospitals you use
  • Set copays and a cap on yearly spending

Many add some dental, vision or hearing coverage. The dollar amounts differ from plan to plan.

The draw is a low premium. The catch is the network, which is tied to where you live. A plan may include St. Mary's Medical Center in West Palm Beach and leave out Boca Raton Regional Hospital, and contracts can change in January. If you spend summers in another state, routine care there usually isn't covered. Read Medicare Advantage in Palm Beach County.

Medicare Supplement Plans (Medigap)

Medigap pays after Original Medicare does. It picks up most of what you'd otherwise owe, like the 20% Part B coinsurance and the hospital deductible. Any doctor or hospital in the U.S. that accepts Medicare will take it, with no network and no referrals.

Prescriptions aren't part of Medigap, so you add a Part D plan next to it.

Medigap is a common pick for people who split the year between Palm Beach County and a home up north, and for anyone who sees specialists at more than one hospital system. You pay more each month and much less when you get care. See Medicare Supplement plans in Palm Beach County.

Advantage and Medigap, Quickly Compared

The short version of how each one works.

Medicare Advantage

  • Care comes from the plan's local network
  • Low premium, and some plans charge $0
  • You pay copays until you reach a yearly limit
  • Routine care in another state is often not covered

Medicare Supplement

  • Works with Original Medicare anywhere in the U.S.
  • Higher monthly premium
  • Small or no bills when you see a doctor
  • Plan benefits are fixed by law

Medigap, Medicare Advantage and Part D in one table

Turning 65 in Palm Beach County

Your Initial Enrollment Period starts three months before your birthday month and ends three months after it. Those seven months are your first chance to sign up.

Miss them and you may pay a late penalty for years, or lose the chance to buy Medigap without health questions. Starting a few months early keeps both routes open. The turning 65 guide lays out the months in order.

  1. 1

Enroll in Part A and Part B

  2. 2

Pick a Medicare Advantage plan, if that's your route

  3. 3

Or apply for Medigap during your six-month window

  4. 4

Pair Medigap with a separate Part D plan

Medicare Help Across Palm Beach County

You'll use whatever plan you pick every time you see a doctor next year, so it's worth a second set of eyes.

Palm Beach Senior Insurance answers questions about Medicare Advantage, Medigap, Part D and turning 65. Our licensed insurance agents know the Medicare rules and the hospitals people here actually use.

The county has a long list of hospitals: Jupiter Medical Center in the north, St. Mary's and Good Samaritan in West Palm Beach, HCA Florida JFK Hospital in Atlantis, Wellington Regional Medical Center out west, and Bethesda Hospital East, Delray Medical Center and Boca Raton Regional Hospital to the south. Veterans have the Thomas H. Corey VA Medical Center in West Palm Beach and VA clinics in Boca Raton and Delray Beach. No plan works well unless it covers the places you actually go. If you use the VA, mention it when you call, because VA care and Medicare can work alongside each other.

Questions

Medicare in Palm Beach County: common questions

When can I join Medicare or change my plan?
New enrollees use the Initial Enrollment Period, which lasts seven months and is centered on the month you turn 65. Once you're on Medicare, the yearly window is October 15 to December 7, and changes take effect January 1. The Open Enrollment page covers what you can change.
What does Part B cost in 2026?
The standard premium is $202.90 a month and the yearly deductible is $283. People with higher incomes pay an added amount, figured from the tax return they filed two years earlier.
I live up north part of the year. Which kind of plan works for that?
Medigap goes with you to any doctor in the country who takes Medicare. An Advantage plan is built around one service area, covers emergencies and urgent care anywhere in the U.S., and may not cover routine visits in your other state. Plans must disenroll members who stay away more than six months in a row, unless the plan has a visitor or traveler benefit. See Advantage vs. Medigap.
Does Medigap include drug coverage?
No Medigap plan sold today pays for prescriptions. Most people with Medigap also join a Part D drug plan when they first qualify, which keeps a late penalty off their premium.
Where can I get free Medicare counseling in Florida?
SHINE (Serving Health Insurance Needs of Elders), Florida's free Medicare counseling program, runs through the Florida Department of Elder Affairs and local Area Agencies on Aging. Call 1-800-963-5337. Medicare.gov and 1-800-MEDICARE are free as well.
How do I check that an agent is licensed in Florida?
The Florida Department of Financial Services has a free Licensee Search on its website. Type in the agent's name and you'll see their license types and status.
Is there a fee for your help?
No. The insurance companies pay our agents. You pay the same premium whether you enroll through us or directly with the plan.
