Medicare in Jupiter

What to know about Medicare in Jupiter

Jupiter is the northernmost town in Palm Beach County, set where the Loxahatchee River meets the ocean. The name traces back to the Hobe people who lived by the inlet. Spanish maps spelled it Jobe, later mapmakers misread that as Jove, and it ended up as Jupiter. The brick Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse was finished in 1860 and still marks the inlet. Two Major League Baseball teams hold spring training at Roger Dean Stadium in Abacoa. The town had 61,047 residents in the 2020 census.

Jupiter Medical Center is on S. Old Dixie Hwy., and Palm Beach Gardens Medical Center on Burns Rd. is the next hospital south. Martin County starts just past Tequesta, and some Jupiter residents see doctors up in Stuart. Advantage plans are sold one county at a time, and a plan sold in Palm Beach County may not count a Martin County office as in network. Before you enroll, check every doctor by name, including any across the county line. A Medicare Supplement pays the same in either county, as long as the doctor accepts Medicare.

If you lean toward a Supplement, the usual choice is Plan G or Plan N. Plan G leaves you with the Part B deductible and little else. Plan N costs less each month, but you pay up to $20 for some office visits and up to $50 for an emergency room visit that doesn't lead to an admission. Neither plan has a network or needs referrals. Drug coverage is separate, so you'd add a Part D plan. We can price both Supplements with your drug list so you see the full yearly picture.

The county's Jupiter Branch Library is at 705 Military Trail, (561) 744-2301, and the Tequesta Branch is at 461 Old Dixie Hwy. N. Veterans can get help with VA claims at the county's Veteran Services office at 6415 W. Indiantown Rd., (561) 964-5459. Meals on Wheels of the Palm Beaches starts its service area in Jupiter and Tequesta. For free Medicare counseling, call SHINE at 1-800-963-5337.

If you'd like someone to look over your coverage, call for a free review by phone. We compare your doctors, prescriptions and monthly budget with the plans we offer in Jupiter. Each fall, from October 15 to December 7, you can check that your doctors will still be in network next year and change plans if they won't. Common questions

Questions we hear from Jupiter

My specialist is in Stuart, in Martin County. Does that matter?
It can. Each Advantage plan is sold for certain counties, and one bought in Palm Beach County may treat a Martin County office as out of network. Give us the specialist's name and we'll check each plan. A Medigap plan pays with any doctor who accepts Medicare, in any county.
What's the difference between Plan G and Plan N?
Both cover most of the costs Original Medicare doesn't pay and work with any doctor who accepts Medicare. Plan G costs more each month and leaves you mainly the Part B deductible. Plan N costs less, but you pay small copays for some office and emergency room visits. We'll price both for your ZIP code.
Is there a set time to change Medicare plans in Jupiter?
Yes. From October 15 through December 7, anyone with Medicare can switch Advantage plans, move back to Original Medicare or pick a new drug plan for the coming year. People who already have a Medicare Advantage plan get one more chance from January 1 to March 31 to switch plans or return to Original Medicare.
