Medicare in Palm Beach Gardens

What to know about Medicare in Palm Beach Gardens

Palm Beach Gardens grew out of a 1959 plan by insurance magnate John D. MacArthur to build homes on old ranch and pine land. He wanted to call it Palm Beach City, but the Florida Legislature turned that name down, so he settled on Palm Beach Gardens. The 1960 census counted exactly one resident. The Gardens Mall opened on PGA Blvd. in 1988, and the PGA National Resort has hosted a PGA Tour event since 2007. The 2020 census counted 59,182 residents.

Palm Beach Gardens Medical Center is at 3360 Burns Rd., near Military Trail. Jupiter Medical Center is a short trip north, and St. Mary's Medical Center and Good Samaritan Medical Center are south in West Palm Beach. The Thomas H. Corey VA Medical Center, the former West Palm Beach VA, sits on N. Military Trail in the 33410 ZIP code it shares with much of the city. Because the VA can't bill Medicare, a lot of local veterans keep Medicare for care outside the VA system.

The county's North County Senior Center is at 5217 Northlake Blvd. It serves breakfast and lunch on weekdays to adults 60 and up, runs adult day care and has veteran services on site. Call (561) 694-5435 to sign up, or (561) 694-5442 about the meal program. Members take part in classes and outings too. The Area Agency on Aging Palm Beach/Treasure Coast has its office nearby at 701 Northpoint Pkwy. in West Palm Beach, and its Helpline at 1-866-684-5885 can point you to local services.

The county's Gardens Branch Library is at 11303 Campus Dr., (561) 626-6133. A Palm Tran bus ride is $1 when you show your Medicare card. For free Medicare counseling, call SHINE at 1-800-963-5337. When you're ready to compare plans, we line up your doctors, prescriptions and preferred hospital against the plans we offer here.

If you'd like someone to look over your coverage, call for a free review by phone. We compare your doctors, prescriptions and monthly budget with the plans we offer in Palm Beach Gardens. Common questions

Questions we hear from Palm Beach Gardens

I get care at the VA. Can I also have a Medicare Advantage plan?
Yes. The VA and Medicare pay for different care, and the VA can't send bills to Medicare. Some veterans add an Advantage plan for doctors outside the VA, and others keep Original Medicare with a Supplement. We'll look at how often you use the VA and help you pick what fits.
Is there a senior center in Palm Beach Gardens?
Yes. Palm Beach County runs the North County Senior Center at 5217 Northlake Blvd., with weekday breakfast and lunch for adults 60 and older. Call (561) 694-5435 to ask about joining.
Is there a set time to change Medicare plans in Palm Beach Gardens?
Yes. From October 15 through December 7, anyone with Medicare can switch Advantage plans, move back to Original Medicare or pick a new drug plan for the coming year. People who already have a Medicare Advantage plan get one more chance from January 1 to March 31 to switch plans or return to Original Medicare.
